ISLAMABAD: Political activities are gaining momentum as date for elections to the fifty-two seats of Senate draws nearer. Parliamentary Boards of major political parties are conducting interviews of the intending candidates. Different political parties are also contacting other parties for seat adjustments. The Senate elections will be held on the 3rd of next month in National and Provincial Assemblies to fill 52 Senate seats which will fall vacant on 11th of next month. Elections will be held for seven general and four reserved seats from each province – including two each for women and technocrats, four seats from FATA, two from Islamabad and two minority seats. Nomination papers will be received on Thursday and Friday. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on 16th and 17th of this month and final list of candidates will be issued on 25th of this month. The electoral process for seats of federal capital and FATA will take place in the National Assembly whereas the vacant seats of Senate in provinces will be filled with voting at respective provincial assemblies. The Election Commission has already printed nomination papers for the elections while the ballot papers will be printed after publication of the final list of candidates. INP
