KARACHI: Foolproof security arrangements have been made by the Sindh police for the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) to be observed on Monday.
The Sindh government has already imposed a two-day ban on pillion-riding of motorbike in different cities as part of security measures. Several mourning processions will be taken out today across the country to observe Chehlum amid tight security arrangements. According to a spokesman of the Sindh Police, about 46,300 police personnel would perform security duty in the province on the occasion.
Extraordinary security arrangements have been finalized for the security of processions, Majalis and other religious gatherings. In Karachi, some 17,950 police personnel will perform the security duty. As many as 5,727 police officers and jawans would be deployed for the security of the main procession in the city at M.A Jinnah Road. Sharp shooters would be deployed on rooftops of high rise buildings. Strict surveillance would be maintained through watch towers around Nishter Park. In Karachi some 100 big and small processions will be taken out while 460 Majalis will be held.
