Sindh to scrutinize credentials of jail staff across province
HYDERABAD/KARACHI (INP): Security high alert has been declared in Hyderabad Central Jail after aborted jailbreak bid in Karachi Central Jail.
According to jail sources, security has been stepped up in Central Jail Hyderabad since Monday midnight.
Additional contingents of police, Rangers and FC personnel have been deployed at various points within the jail and outside areas.
Security men conducted a search operation in Employees Colony of the central jail. Security men searched houses and gathered information from the residents, sources said.
US journalist Daniel Pearl’s murder convict Shaikh Omar and scores of other high profile prisoners belonging to banned militant groups have been imprisoned in Hyderabad jail.
Meanwhile, after emergence of proofs that some jail officers and staffers have links with banned organizations, political parties and dangerous prisoners, Sindh Jail department has decided to scrutinize the credentials of all the jail officers and officials across the province.
Sources in the department said that Provincial Minister Manzoor Wassan has issued instruction for the scrutiny of every staff and the process will start soon.
They said that the Minister has received reports that jail officers and officials are involved in providing facilities to dangerous prisoners. They added that there are also proofs that the jail staff has links with banned organizations and political parties and they are in regular contacts with them regarding prisoners of these organizations and their barracks. Even the dangerous prisoners are provided all the secret decisions and to prevent it, it has been decided to scrutinize the staffers.
The sources said that those found having links with the banned organizations and political parties would be awarded punishments as provided in the law.
