PESHAWAR: All private and public sector schools in Cantonment area of the city on Saturday were suddenly shut down due to security threats.
Students arriving at the schools in the morning were directed by authorities to return to homes. Teachers also were not aware of the development as neither the closure of educational was announced through media nor a formal notification in this regard was issued by the education department.
According to officials of education department, the educational institutions were closed down on the directives of Deputy Coordination Officer, Peshawar citing security threats.
It may be mentioned that security of all private and government schools was beefed up after the Dec 16, 2014 terror attack on Army Public School (APS), in which over 100 children, besides the principal and teachers were killed.
