ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday declared appointment of Attaul Haq Qasmi as Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) Managing Director as illegal.

A two-member bench of the apex court announced its verdict that was reserved in July this year, regarding illegal appointment of PTV MD.

According to details, the court has ordered to take back all the salary and incentives worth Rs197.8 million from Qasmi and nullified the administrative orders passed by him as MD.

The judge has also directed the concerned authorities to recover this amount from former information minister Pervez Rashid, ex-finance minister Ishaq Dar and former principal secretary Fawad Hasan Fawad.

On February 22, 2016, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar took suo motu notice and inquired that who instructed to pay Attaul Haq Qasmi Rs15,00,000 as monthly income. “Was he eligible for this?” he questioned.

The top judge said that Qasmi was paid Rs27 crore during his tenure of two years which was tax money of people of Pakistan. DNA
