RAWALPINDI: State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Maryam Aurangzeb said the country could not be put on track of development and prosperity where the public elected prime minister is ousted from his office in an indecent and hasty manner.
The sanctity of the ballot should be ensured for flourishing the democracy and bring betterment in life style of common man, she said. She added N league passed access to information act and journalists security bill and took various steps to ensure the safety of journalists and media freedom. Maryam expressed these views while addressing workers convention at Rawalpindi Press Club on Wednesday.
Besides Mayor Rawalpindi Sardar Nasim Ahmed Khan, a large numbers of journalists and media workers attended the convention. Addressing the convention, the information minister said the respect and encouragement for workers in any institution/department is must.
She said the role of Pakistani journalists is appreciable. She said access to information by ordinary person was the vision of ex-PM Mian Nawaz Sharif, who also did a lot for media freedom and betterment of journalists. Maryam said Nawaz Sharif was committed to root out menace of terrorism from the country but he was sacked from his office for a crime he never committed. “The government which talks about the rights of journalists will never ever get damage the rights of media men,” the information minister said. She was of view that former information and broadcasting Minister Pervaiz Rashid did a lot for awarding the journalists the wage board award. Commenting on holding T-20 Azadi Cup, Maryam Aurangzeb said the matches between Pakistani cricket team and World-XI in Lahore is the ample proof that normalcy has returned to terror-hit Pakistan.
