ISLAMABAD: Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has decided to increase the salary of MNAs on their persistent demands. The salary of the MNAs is being almost doubled from Rs 68,000 to Rs 1,30,000 per month.
According to sources, the Speaker will inform the members about the decision to increase their salary on Monday while a formal announcement would be made by the Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar in his budget speech on 5th June, 2015.
It is worth mentioning that members of the PPP, PML-N, MQM, Jamaat-e-Islami, PTI and other parties were demanding the Speaker for the last three months that their salary was very meagre which should be increased immediately. They also pointed out that in the protocol their names are written after the Federal Secretaries.
At the insistence of the members, the Speaker constituted a committee which has submitted its recommendations to the Speaker and the Finance Ministry. The sources said that the Finance Minister in principle has agreed to the proposal and obtained approval from the Prime Minister.
It is worth mentioning that the MNAs are also drawing travel and other allowances in addition to payment of utility bills. They are also given daily allowance of Rs 4,500 for attending meeting of standing committees.
