Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has held meetings with top civil and military leaderships of Pakistan during his two-day official visit of the neighboring country.
Rouhani is visiting Pakistan for the first time on invitation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani held delegation-level talks in Islamabad, with special emphasis on the regional situation. Rouhani arrived in the capital to hold talks with Pakistani leadership on improving relations and strengthening economic ties. Rouhani said that he is in Pakistan to discuss important regional and global issues and explore opportunities for constructive engagement. It is good omen that after lifting the international sanctions on Iran, Islamabad and Tehran are looking forward to enhance bilateral ties. The Iranian President was accorded a warm welcome upon arrival at the Prime Minister’s House and presented a guard of honour by a contingent representing armed forces of the three services.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif called on President Rouhani and discussed matters of regional security, Pak-Iran relations, border security and connectivity. President paid the rich tribute to the achievements of operation Zarb-e-Azb to eliminate terrorism in Pakistan.
It was reported that involvement of Indian via Iran was also discussed. However, President Rouhani later termed this news a rumour. But we hope that Iran would not allow anyone to use its soil for any action against Pakistan.
Both the countries should work together and share intelligence information to tackle the illegal immigration into each others countries. Pakistan and Iran need to bolster ties so that both countries are able to uproot the menace of terrorism from the region.
