Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif while presiding over the Corps Commanders Conference held at General Headquarters (GHQ) has stressed the need to secure long term gains of the army operation in the tribal areas of the country.
COAS while appreciating gains of intelligence based operations to terminate the terrorist activities said that IBOs further need to be escalated to eliminate structure of terrorists from the country. Indeed to root out terrorism from our beloved country, there is dire need to implement on all 20 points of National Action Plan. One point under NAP is to enhance intelligence based information and operation. But in reality nothing substantial has been done on creating two new security authorities, National Counter-Terrorism Authority and Joint Intelligence Directorate.
For more than a decade now, the army has been leading counterinsurgency operations against militant groups in the country while the law enforcement agencies have been engaged in the fight against urban terrorism. Due to the efforts of law enforcing agencies Pakistan has witnessed decrease in terror related incidents. At least 35 percent reduction has been noticed in the terrorism in Pakistan in 2015 in comparison of 2014. Pleasant news is the 80 percent decline this year in terror acts and extremism in FATA, Karachi and Balochistan has been noticed.
We have made empathic progressed to make our country free from terrorism but truth is we are still in state of war and our country has been facing a number of threats that are a major cause of concern. To root out terrorism from our country we need united efforts because it is a shared responsibility of all of us.
Country has witnessed 35 percent reduction in terrorism activities during 2015.
