Today, the provincial assemblies and the parliament have all but given up the independence envisioned by the Constitution. There is no one else to blame but myself as the superior judiciary issues directives on the internal workings of the houses, Mr. Rabbani said in a statement released here on Friday, when the Supreme Court ordered that the Punjab chief minister be re-elected on July 22, five days after by-elections on 20 Punjab Assembly seats, following an hours-long hearing on the PTI’s petition.
When the Supreme Court had to step in during the vote of no-confidence against the then-prime minister, Imran Khan, in April, Mr. Rabbani had also expressed a similar sentiment.
Mr. Rabbani said in his remarks that the provincial assembly and parliament had already been eliminated by Pakistan’s ruling class.
