RAWALPINDI: A 19-year-old girl who fell off the front windscreen of metro bus and was run over in Rawalpindi on Friday succumbed to injuries. The incident took place when bus driver suddenly applied emergency brake due to construction on metro bus track at Rehmanabad Station. As a result, teenage medical student Sumaira fell off the windscreen and crushed to death by the bus.
Arriving at the scene, rescue team shifted the body to the hospital whereas police have also launched an investigation to nab the bus driver who fled the scene after the mishap. On the other hand, Chief Minister of Punjab (CM) Shehbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and ordered to submit report as deceased’s family and friends staged a protest outside District Headquarters Hospital. It is pertinent to mention here that such kind of incidents had also occurred in the past as on August 15, 2015 Fehmida Begum, a resident of Humak Town Sihala also her life after she slipped from the bus, fell on the track, and was run over. Separately on October 19, 2015, a motorcycle passenger died after rock from an incomplete portion of the metro bus bridge in Rawalpindi caved in. On February 4, 2017, an unidentified man committed suicide by jumping off Metro Bus bridge in Lahore. Police officers said that the deceased had no identification material in his pockets. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the mega project of Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Service at the Jinnah Convention Centre in federal capital on June 4, 2015.
