RAWALPINDI: District Administration raided, fined and sealed many food outlets including hotels and restaurants in Rawalpindi for selling substandard food items.
According to details, the action was initiated under the supervision of female Cantonment Board administrator Saima Shah. According to details, Cantt board administration raided restaurant and hotels – Texas and Namak Mandi and some other famous food outlets and fined them worth tens of thousands of rupees.
In addition the cantonment board has decided that operation would be enhanced to street level and action would be initiated against small hotels and food outlets soon. Namak Mandi and Texas food were fined on poor sanitary condition and for hiring the workers without their medical checkup. KFC’s water filtration Plant also sealed
According to reports, Rawal, Jugni, Pizza Hut and KFC were fined one lac rupees each while Haq Bahoo rupees 50 thousand.
In the past Cantonment board food Department was totally idle and taking no action over poor sanitary standards. Insiders say that the staff was in collusion with the outlets owners and keeping the eyes shut over the poor cleanliness standards. But after appearance of reports in the media about the state of affairs in the Cantt Board and taking cue from operations in Lahore against big hotels, the new CEO decided that it was time to re-energize the Board including the food department and ordered action with the instructions that it should be across the board and no pressure should be accepted.
Sources in the Board said that a drive against encroachments is also expected particularly in Tanch Bhatta Bazar, Chungi-22 and in main bazaars of Saddar.
