ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Senator Pervaiz Rashid has expressed reservations over attitude of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) towards the case of alleged financial corruption by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Addressing a news conference here on Tuesday, Pervaiz Rashid said a founding member of PTI had filed a case in the EC pointing out irregularities and corruption in collection of party funds abroad and their utilization.
He said PTI lawyer sought deferment of the case fourteen times on different pretexts and finally took the case to the High Court on the plea that Election Commission could not hear the case.
The Information Minister said the logic of PTI counsel was queer as he could have raised this objection at the very outset of the hearing of the case in the Commission, which he did not.
Pervaiz Rashid pointed out that instead of presenting point of view of the Commission and defending the case in the High Court, counsel of Election Commission seconded the arguments of PTI lawyer, which is a source of concern.
He said as the High Court has not granted stay, the Election Commission should hear the case on first of next month and seek necessary documents and evidence from Imran Khan.
He urged the EC to continue hearing of the case and decide it at the earliest as it has already been delayed considerably.
