LAHORE, Nov 05 (INP): Senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has claimed that his party during its government in Punjab made the province polio free but nowadays due to defective policies of sitting government more children were becoming victim of polio with each passing day.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi said that when PML-Q government had completed its tenure in 2007, number of new polio cases in Punjab was zero. He said that our performance in health sector had been duly appreciated by all international organizations including World Bank, ADF, DFID and UNICEF. PML-Q during its regime had launched successful and most effective campaign for elimination of polio, hepatitis, AIDS and other dreadful diseases in collaboration with World Health Organization, UNICEF and other international donor agencies at a cost of Rs. 6.5 billion, he said adding that phased surveys and other preventive measures were taken under Malaria Roll Back Project in cooperation with district governments and international organizations.
Parvez Elahi further said that due to defective health policy of sitting provincial leadership, polio disease was again spreading in Punjab because of numerous innocent children were becoming its victim and crippled for life.
He said that the recent survey report of Global Polio Eradication Programme was a question mark on performance of sitting government which ignoring public health sector and wasting billions of rupees of public money on useless and show off projects. INP
