ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice-Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi Wednesday expressed his shock over PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s fiery speech the night before.
Speaking to journalists outside the parliament house in Islamabad, Qureshi asked why the need arose for such a harsh stance from the PPP leader who is usually calm and composed.
He asked the former president, why he didn’t expose those who trampled on democracy during his five-year rule and failed to take action in the NLC scam.
Qureshi told journalists that certain corrupt politicians have ruined the country by plundering national wealth. He supported accountability but emphasized that it should be within the ambit of law.
He emphasized that times have changed and if someone thinks another era like Zia’s might return – they are mistaken. He added, that there is no clash between institutions, that there is no attack underway on democracy and it was wrong to create such an impression.
Shah Mehmud raised the question that what was the reason that provoked former President to use such language against one of the premier institution of the country?
Shah Mehmud urged government to unveil DG Ranger’s report regarding corruption in Karachi that included names of twenty four persons. “Politically stable and peaceful Pakistan is the need of hour”, he added.
He cautioned that such statements are inappropriate at a time when the situation is very sensitive at the western and eastern borders and the armed forces are giving sacrifices of their lives forr the defence of the country.
PTI Vice Chairman said that criticism and hurling of threats would not resolve issues but further complicate matters.
