In preparation for the crucial Supreme Court hearing on Chaudhry Parvez Elahi’s appeal challenging the Punjab Assembly deputy speaker’s decision calling the chief minister’s re-election in Hamza Shehbaz’s favour, the coalition government is currently holding a news conference in Islamabad.

It happens a day after the administration declared it would petition the SC for the appointment of a full court bench to consider matters involving the application of Article 63-A of the Constitution and the status of MPs who have defied the government.

Maryam Nawaz, vice president of the PML-N, stated at the start of the press conference that she had been warned against holding the media event because it would interfere with her appeal in the Panama case, which was being heard by the Islamabad High Court and was “in its last stages.”

But I did say that the representative of the people must put the needs of the people above their own.Regarding recent court rulings, Maryam stated that they have a long-lasting and growing impact.

I could write an essay extolling the judiciary, but one incorrect ruling would invalidate the whole thing, she added. However, she added, a choice founded on fairness may withstand criticism.

She claimed that court petitions were being submitted but were either being delayed or not being fixed.

She claimed that because of the way our justice system is set up, when a petition is submitted, the public already knows who will sit on the bench and what ruling would be rendered.
