ISLAMABAD: The presidential elections will be held in the country in the third week of August as incumbent head of the state Mamnoon Hussain completes his constitutional term on September 8.

After the new government is formed following July 25 general elections, the newly-elected lawmakers will name the new president of the country.

It is to be mentioned here that as per the constitution, the presidential elections should be conducted between July 8 and August 8.

General elections are scheduled to be held on 25 July to elect members of the National Assembly and the new elected assemblies would elect a new President.

Mamnoon Hussain was elected as the 12th President of Pakistan on July 30, 2013. Hussain, a 73-year-old textile businessman from Karachi, was then sworn in on Sept 9 at the presidency after it was vacated by then president Asif Ali Zardari.

He was governor of Sindh from June to October 1999 when Sharif’s government was overthrown by the then army chief General Pervez Musharraf. NNI
