
ISLAMABAD: On Saturday, President Dr. Arif Alvi urged the creation of favourable conditions to guarantee women’s inclusion and engagement in the economic, business, trade, and industrial sectors on a priority basis.
The resident gave this interview to a group from the Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Peshawar (WCC&IP), which had come to see him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr and was led by its president, Mrs. Shahida Parveen. Senior government officials, including the Director General (Trade Policy) and the Ministry of Commerce, also attended the meeting.
According to the president, women make up nearly half of the population of the nation, so creating enabling conditions for them should be a top priority for the government and society. These conditions include ensuring their safety and security at work and giving them access to high-quality education and job training.
He emphasised the need to “modify local conventions and practises regarding women’s property and inheritance rights and to grant women all the property rights lawful to them in accordance with our religion and the Constitution.”
He added that legislation had been passed to provide women their fair share in inherited property and that recently, initiatives had been taken for their financial emancipation.He claimed that under the law, if a woman’s property had been infringed upon, the government would remove it.
The president also emphasised that commercial banks offered business loans to women with favourable and straightforward terms and conditions, and he urged the chambers of commerce across the nation to assist female entrepreneurs in obtaining these loans to launch new businesses or expand existing ones.
