President for enhancing Pak-Algeria relations in trade and economic matters; urges HEC for development of human resource

ISLAMABAD, Dec 23 (INP) Dr. Ahmed Benflis outgoing Ambassador of Algeria in Pakistan, Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed and Chairman Shifa Foundation Dr. Muhammad Ata separately called on President Mamnoon Hussain at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday.

Discussing Pakistan-Algeria bilateral relations with the outgoing ambassador of Algeria, the President said that Pakistan greatly values its friendship with Algeria which is based on commonality of views on regional and global matters of mutual interest. He said that Pakistan is keen to enhance its existing relations with Algeria in all areas particularly in trade and economic matters adding that the existing volume of trade is not commensurate with the potential of both countries. The President expressed desire that high level exchanges between the two countries would be instrumental in further boosting bilateral relations.

The President stated that Pakistan is a business friendly destination and offered good opportunities to foreign investors adding that Pakistan will welcome Algerian investment in Telecom, Engineering and power generation. He said that Pakistan is ready to enter into joint ventures with Algeria in oil/gas exploration and setting up a fertilizer plant in Algeria.

The President lauded the ambassadorial services of Dr. Ahmed Benflis in bringing Pakistan and Algeria further closer during his stay in Pakistan. The President wished the outgoing envoy good luck and success in his future life and assignments.

Dr. Ahmed Benflis thanked the President and government of Pakistan for the support he was extended during his stay as ambassador in Pakistan.

Talking to Chairman HEC, the President emphasized the crucial role of the universities in human resource development which ultimately contributes toward economic progress of the country. He  said that the government was committed to promote the spread of higher education in the country adding that the present government has allocated Rs. 63.068 billion for the higher education sector in FY 2014-15 which is the highest ever.

Chairman (HEC) Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed also briefed the President about some of the issues faced by the universities.

In a meeting with Chairman Shifa Foundation Dr. Muhammad Ata, President Mamnoon Hussain assured of government’s resolve for provision of quality healthcare for the masses. The President also mentioned the importance of private sector’s role to supplement government efforts in providing affordable health services for the people. He underscored the need for creating awareness about control and prevention from Thalassemia. The President also asked Dr. Muhammad Ata to give suggestions for control of Thalassemia and introduction of Urdu as medium of instruction in the field of Nursing.
