PRCS remains at the forefront to combat natural, man-made disasters: Dr Saeed

Mamnnon assurers all out support to strengthen PRCS

ISLAMABAD, 30 SEP (DNA): President Mamnoon Hussain has lauded the humanitarian services rendered by Pakistan Red Crescent Society over the decades in times of natural calamities and any other emergency.  He said this after being briefed on the relief efforts of the Society for Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) of North Waziristan Agency (NWA) in the wake of military operation Zarb-e-Azb and for affectees from recent floods and torrential rains by Chairman PRCS Dr. Saeed Elahi in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The President said that the emerging challenges and increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters in the recent past have further increased the importance of the role of PRCS.

The President appreciated the humanitarian services being provided by the PRCS to the affectees and assured of all possible support in further strengthening the organization.

Earlier, Dr. Saeed Elahi Chairman PRCS gave detailed briefing on the relief interventions being made by the Society in collaboration with other organizations for TDPs and for recent flood affectees.

It was apprised that PRCS, through its relief work, was at the forefront to combat natural and man-made disasters by providing, inter-alia, primary healthcare services to the affected, less privileged and marginalized people. It was also apprised that PRCS had established over 219 health facilities including hospitals, mobile health units, dispensaries, blood donation centers and ambulance services in AJK and KPK since 2005 earthquake.

President Mamnoon Hussain also paid rich tributes to the sacrifices rendered by TDPs of North Waziristan Agency in the wake of military operation Zarb-e-Azb and reaffirmed commitment for their early rehabilitation and reconstruction of damaged infrastructure in the area.

President said that the entire nation was proud of their bravery and prays for their peace, security and early return to their native places. The President also lauded the role of PRCS in mitigating the sufferings of flood affected people in Punjab, Sindh, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan and expressed resolve for providing all possible support to the affectees and for their early rehabilitation.
