In the first round of yesterday’s local government elections in 14 Sindh districts, the Pakistan People’s Party triumphed by a landslide.
With 64 seats, the JUI did admirably as well. The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf did poorly, with only 13 of its candidates returning to office after the Grand Democratic Alliance won 43 seats.
In Kandhkot, the PPP won 15 out of the 16 municipal committee wards, making a clean sweep.
In addition, PPP candidates prevailed in elections for 20 of the 32 union committees in Tharparkar.
In Mirpurkhas, the PPP won 14 seats. On 27 UCs in Shikarpur, PPP was successful. While in Umarkot, eight PPP candidates were elected.
