BAHAWALNAGAR: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Shaukat Basra was injured while his personal assistant was killed in an exchange of fire in Bahawalnagar district on Monday.
According to reports, Basra was on his way to participate in a rally when he got into a heated argument with members of Pakistan Muslim League-N in Bahawalnagar’s Haroonabad area, following which an exchange of fire took place, injuring several people.
Basra received serious injuries as a result of the firing, while his personal assistant was killed. Two other PPP workers were also injured. The injured were shifted to a local hospital in the district.
PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari condemned the attack and called for arrest of the culprits.
PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari called the attack an act of cowardice. PPP leader Afzal Chan blamed “PML-N goons” for the attack. Senior PPP leader Syed Khursheed Shah has strongly condemned the high handedness of the government and demanded an immediate inquiry into the incident.
PPP secretary information Chaudhry Manzoor condemned the attack on Shaukat Basra saying the PML-N ‘Gullu Butts’ assaulted the peaceful protest sit-in. He demanded the people responsible for the attack be arrested immediately. PPP Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira also condemned the attack.
