KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) MNAs Mir Ejaz Hussain Jakhrani, Nawab Wassan, and Shahjehan Balouch had lauded the efforts and courage of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for rejecting suggestions of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) for imposing Rs.417 billion on consumer-end tariff with regard to electricity.
They said the NEPRA was under stress from the ECC to add Rs.417 billion in electricity tariff for consumer-end tariff so as to help the federal government recover the sum spen on settling down the circular debt to the independent power producers (IPP). However, the NEPRA had while referring to the NEPRA Act refused to accept those suggestions and thus the consumers at end were saved from paying their money without any consumption of electricity.
The PPP MNAs said the PPP was the only political party in Pakistan that always protected the rights of the people and took decisions that favoured the masses across the board.
They said the PMLN’s government in centre did not justify imposition of one-sided and tyrannical decisions on the masses while ignoring concerns of the provinces and the PMLN government had despite the passage of the 18th constitutional amendment continued to ignore the provinces on certain matters that needed to be taken to the council of common interest.
The PPP MNAs once again appreciated the NEPRA for showing a true corporate culture and institutional autonomyDNA
