GUJRANWALA: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Rana Akhtar Ali Khan defeated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Ehsanullah Virk by a massive margin in the PP-100 by-election in Gujranwala on Sunday.
Rana Akhtar Ali defeated Virk by over 21,000 votes in the by-election.
Polling took place in Gujranwala today at the Punjab Assembly’s PP-100 seat, which was vacated after the murder of MPA Rana Shamshad Khan from the ruling PML-N.
The PML-N fielded Rana Akhtar Ali Khan, the brother of deceased MPA Rana Shamshad Ali Khan, while the PTI fielded Ehsanullah Virk and PPP Rana Shahbaz Ahmad Khan.
As many as 162,444 voters were registered in the constituency while 113 polling stations were set-up for the polls. A total 3,000 policemen were also deployed to maintain peace during balloting.
