ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders apologised before Supreme Court of Pakistan for criticising the apex court on Wednesday.
Daniyal Aziz had apparently stated that apex court was having discriminatory behaviour against the ruling party, adding it had different standards of justice for Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif.
The request of apology came while hearing of Hanif Abbasi’s case aiming disqualification of PTI Chief Imran Khan for concealing offshore assets. The case is being heard by a three-member bench of Supreme Court led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar.
Hanif Abbasi and Daniyal Aziz had to apologise for their statements on Tuesday before the apex court when they were called at the rostrum and asked to explain their position regarding the statements.
In fact, the PML-N’s lawyer Akram Sheikh had directed Daniyal Aziz to ask for pardon. Daniyal Aziz said before SC, “I apologise if there was any mistake committed on my part.”
Justice Saqib Nisar responded saying politicians should not wash their dirty linen in court and warned them against making such statements in future.
“We will not tolerate contempt of court. Media talks of court proceedings would be banned if felt necessary,” he added. NNI
