Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called an urgent meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) on Monday to discuss the rapidly evolving regional situation amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, official sources confirmed on Sunday.
The high-level meeting, scheduled for 12 PM at the Prime Minister’s House, will be attended by both civilian and military leadership, including Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and other senior officials.
Sources added that Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir will brief the committee on his recent visit to the United States, with a particular focus on strategic and security discussions held during the trip.
The NSC is expected to conduct in-depth deliberations on the Iran-US crisis, with the possibility of major policy decisions regarding Pakistan’s position and diplomatic support for Iran. The agenda will also include a comprehensive review of internal and border security dynamics.
The meeting follows Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s telephonic conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian earlier in the day, during which the two leaders discussed the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict and its broader implications.
In the call, PM Shehbaz strongly condemned the recent U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, describing them as a dangerous escalation. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the Iranian government and its people, offering condolences for the lives lost and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The NSC meeting is being closely watched by regional observers, as Pakistan weighs its response in a highly sensitive and rapidly changing geopolitical environment.
