Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday directed the officials concerned to take practical measures to streamline and promote trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The PM was chairing a high-level meeting to chalk out ways for improvement in the existing border management system.

While underscoring the importance of “independent but secured” borders, the premier directed the establishment of a “special division for border management system” in the interior ministry under the supervision of additional secretary.

The meeting was briefed that it was necessary to consolidate the details of all people who enter Pakistan through land, sea, or air routes at one place. It was also informed about progress on border fencing and systems installed at various border crossings.

Meanwhile, the PM approved, in principle, establishment of the Export Development Board (EDB) with an aim to enhance the country’s exports. The approval was granted during the PM’s meeting with his commerce advisor Abdul Razak Dawood in Islamabad.

The PM will be the president of the EDB, while all stakeholders related to exports will be given representation in the board. The meeting of the EDB will be convened every month in which exporters will be invited so that their problems are resolved on a priority basis.

In another meeting, PM Imran directed the officials to ensure environmental protection during the execution of construction projects in the country.

Talking to Naya Pakistan Housing Development Authority Chairman Anwar Ali Haider and Pakistan Islands Authority Chairman Imran Amin in Islamabad, the PM noted that improvement in construction activities will create employment opportunities and stabilise the economy.

He said that environmental analysis of all projects is necessary in accordance with the law, adding that the government will take all possible steps in this regard.

The PM was briefed on construction activities and environmental protection measures in these projects during the meeting.

Moreover, Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi called on Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday and briefed him about the overall situation of the ports. They discussed provision of easy loans to the fishermen and Karachi situation.

The PM directed all possible steps for the financial assistance and prosperity of the fishermen.
