ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed the government’s resolve for ensuring a merit-based business friendly environment in the country.
“We have a liberal approach towards economy and as a government, our earnest efforts for ensuring transparency, competitiveness and giving an enhanced role to private sector in national economy are eminently clear from our performance”, he added.
The Prime Minister was talking to Global Managing Director of McKinsey Group Dominic Barton here at the Prime Minister House.
He said that the government encouraged private sector for sustainable economic development and friendly environment is being provided for this purpose. It was
strictly following policies to ensure merit and transparency.
The Prime Minister said that pace of work in implementation of projects was necessary as slow execution would hamper the overall progress and development initiatives of the government.
“We are engaged in pursuing the economic reforms agenda of our government with special focus on achieving self sufficiency in energy and infrastructure development in Pakistan,” he added.
Dominic Barton observed that Pakistan had witnessed an amazing economic turnaround by pursuing practical economic policies during the last two years.
He said energy sector, infrastructure development and attracting investments were the rightly prioritized areas of the government and his group was ready to support its policy reforms.
“We are ready to extend our assistance to the government in reducing line losses in the transmission lines”, Barton said.
“China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is internationally viewed as a vital project which is destined to unlock the economic growth in Pakistan, as well as the entire region”, he observed
Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar and other senior government officials were present during the meeting.
