ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has on Thursday termed the statements by Indian leaders as irresponsible. Nawaz said that the ‘desire for peace’ cannot be one-sided. He said that Pakistan wants peace in the region but there should be same sentiments on the other side as well. “National interest is foremost”, he said.
Addressing an ambassadors’ conference at Foreign Office, Prime Minister said that the irresponsible statements made by the Indian leadership are damaging the atmosphere of reconciliation. He said that the policy of a peaceful neighborhood formed the basis of Pakistan’s foreign policy yet there should be similar sentiments on the other side.
Nawaz Sharif said that Pakistan has been moving forward by facing the challenges steadily. He once again stressed upon the United Nations Security Council to get its resolutions on Kashmir issue implemented in letter and spirit.
“Terrorism is a grave threat to a developing Pakistan. We achieved great successes in Operation Zarb-e-Azb. Democracy and institutions are gaining strength in the country”, said the PM.
Nawaz Sharif said that Pakistan has a unique geostrategic location and is a rising economic power in the region. “Not only Pakistan, entire region will benefit from China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)”, said Nawaz. He said that peace on the Pak-Afghan border was a mutual responsibility of both the countries.
“We asked Afghanistan not to let its soil be used against Pakistan. Afghanistan’s enemies are Pakistan’s enemies”, he said. PM reiterated the resolve that Pakistan will not allow its soil to be used against Afghanistan.
