ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif must have offered Army Chief General Raheel Sharif the rank of Field Marshal; this was stated by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senior Leader Senator Aitzaz Ahsan while speaking exclusively to Sardar Khan Niazi in Roze News program Sachi Baat. Aitzaz however speculated that the Army Chief would have rejected this ‘offer’. The Senator also claimed that General Raheel Sharif is like a bad dream for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Aitzaz said that ‘business’ is in the DNA of the Prime Minister and in business such ‘offers’ are made.

No difference between style of Shehbaz Sharif and Altaf Hussain:
Aitzaz said that there is no difference between the ‘style’ of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain. He said that for the military Shehbaz Sharif is a ‘good cop’ and added that Altaf Hussain and Farooq Sattar are also playing the good cop, bad cop game. Aitzaz further said that it was the Punjab Chief Minister who used inappropriate language against the then President Asif Ali Zardari.

Zardari’s speech against military was uncharacteristic:
Commenting about the hard hitting speech by former president and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari last year Aitzaz said that the speech by Asif Zardari was uncharacteristic and labeled it as a ‘weak’ moment of the PPP co-Chairman. However, Aitzaz said that the former President was well versed in the art of politics and he is someone who wins over even his strongest critics.

We saved PMLN’s government in 2014:
Aitzaz said that it was the Pakistan Peoples Party that saved the PMLN government back in 2014. It is pertinent to mention here that the government was under monumental pressure back in 2014 when the sit-ins by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek were on their peak.

Govt’s sole aim is to save Prime Minister:
Commenting about the Panama Papers scandal Aitzaz question as to how the Supreme Court can give verdict on millions of cases dating back to as far as 1947? Aitzaz said that Panama Papers have unearthed as unique crime a crime where money from Pakistan was secretly transferred to other countries. The Senator said that currently there is no proper law to conduct a trial of such a crime and said that we are brining a new law in this regard adding in the same breath that the government would not allow such a law to be passed. Aitzaz said such a bill would actually be beneficial for the country and it would be not just for the Prime Minister but for everyone. Aitzaz concluded his remarks on the topic by saying that government is working day and night to save the Prime Minister.

Musharraf’s chapter closed:
Responding to a question by Sardar Khan Niazi, Aitzaz said that former military ruler Pervez Musharraf cannot return to the country now and added that not being able to return to the homeland is a ‘punishment’ for Pervez Musharraf.

Nawaz Sharif didn’t pay any tax in 94/95:
During the interview Aitzaz also pointed out that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif didn’t pay any tax during 94/95. Aitzaz also told that he was the lawyer of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 2000 and said that it was an honor for me that Nawaz Sharif picked me as his lawyer.

LPG quota saga:
Responding to a question Aitzaz said that the government alleges that I got myself LPG quota which is not true. He said that government Ministers merely allege me of this if I indeed have such a quota I should be tried.
