PM in New York

Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is in New York and is set to address United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 30.

Prior to his address, Prime Minster has met with numerous world leaders. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has called upon the UN Secretary-General for implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir issue. In his meeting with Ban Ki-moon in New York on Sunday, the Prime Minister called for plebiscite for resolution of the longstanding issue of Jammu and Kashmir. Nawaz Sharif also raised the issue of ceasefire violation by India on the Line of Control and the Working Boundary with the UN Secretary-General. He urged the UN Chief to play his role in ending unprovoked ceasefire violation by India. The UN Secretary-General expressed concerned over tension between Pakistan and India. He offered his good offices and called for dialogue between Pakistan and India.

Prime Minister met with world leaders on the sideline of 70th United Nations General Assembly session in New York. During the meeting, the world leaders have acknowledged Pakistan’s sacrifices as well as gains in the war against terrorism. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met with Swedish Prime Minister Stefen lofven, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and co-founder Microsoft Bill Gates separately.

It is a good omen that Prime Minister utilizing the chance and has briefed the world leaders about the sacrifices we have rendered fighting war against terror. World leaders have appreciated efforts of Pakistan to eliminate terrorism. It is also a pleasing effort that numbers of business deals were also made in the energy sector. Leaders exchanged views on a number of issues including renewable energy, trade, health, education.

 

In his address to UNGA PM is more likely to raise issue of Line of Control and Working Boundary skirmishes and to restart debate on Kashmir issue.
