PM Imran Khan convenes NSC meeting tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has summoned the meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) tomorrow (Friday) to discuss the country’s security situation after proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) continues long march towards Islamabad.

Sources said that the meeting was convened in view of the situation arising out of the illegal activities of the banned organization. Other issues related to national security will also be considered in the meeting.

Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry in a statement on Twitter said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has convened a meeting of the National SecurityCommittee tomorrow in view of the situation arising out of the illegal activities of the banned outfit.

He said that other issues related to national security would also be discussed in the meeting.

A new phase of talks between proscribed TLP and the government’s teams resumed again on Thursday after the earlier phase ended in failure, sources said.

According to sources, the government is being represented in the talks by Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid and Religious Affairs Minister Noorul Haq Qadri. Chief of proscribed group TLP, Saad Rizvi also participating in the talks having a three point agenda, sources said.

The first point of the agenda is the release of Saad Rizvi from imprisonment, while the second point is withdrawal of cases against the workers of the proscribed group.

Another policeman who got wounded in clashes with protesters of the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning.

Constable Ghulam Rasool was posted at Kasur’s Saddar police station. He got injured in clashes with the protesters the other day and was brought to THQ Hospital Muridke for treatment.

He succumbed to his wounds this morning at 9am, officials confirmed. The tally of cops who have martyred in the violent protest has risen to five.

Earlier, Punjab government today deployed paramilitary Rangers in eight districts of the province.

The rangers force has been deployed for 60 days in the province, sources at the provincial home department said.

Rangers personnel have been posted in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Chakwal, Gujrat and Faisalabad districts, according to sources.

The march of the banned organization has affected life in the federal capital Islamabad and various cities in Punjab.

Strict security arrangements have been made in Rawalpindi; the main highways connecting Islamabad and Rawalpindi have been sealed. Faizabad Metro service is suspended from the President.

Alternative routes have been severely congested and citizens are facing difficulties, making it difficult for patients to get to the hospital.
