PM directs for early rehabilitation of flood affectees

SUKKUR, Sept 20 (DNA):Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has directed provincial governments to invest more to prevent floods to ward off losses of life and economy.

Speaking at a briefing given to him during a visit to Sukkur Barrage, he said protection of life and property of the people is the foremost priority of the government.

The prime minister, who was accompanied by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, asked experts to devise a coordinated strategy for preventing floods.

He said the government has mobilised all available resources to provide relief to the flood-hit people.

Secretary Irrigation apprised the Prime Minister that the flood affected over 87,000 people and over 29,000 cattle besides inundating more than 100,000 acres of land in Sindh.

He said the flood hit around 251 villages of kacha area. Fifteen relief camps in different areas have been established housing flood-hit people.
