ISLAMABAD, Dec 26 (NNI): Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday constituted a committee to ensure implementation of the National Action Plan to counter terrorism in the country.
The Prime Minister himself will head the committee. The decision to this effect was taken at a consultative meeting, chaired by the prime minister, held in Islamabad.
The members of the committee will be Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal and Adviser to PM on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz.
During the meeting, PM Sharif said he himself would supervise the process of implementation of the plan to ensure early and effective implementation.
The Peshawar tragedy will remain in focus of the government until the last terrorist on the soil of Pakistan is eliminated, said Nawaz Sharif.
He directed the Attorney General to consult the political leadership for bringing necessary amendments to the constitution at the earliest.
The Prime Minister said Zarb-e Azb operation against the anti-state elements in the tribal areas and those taking shelter in cities was an important turn in the history of the country.
Nawaz Sharif said he himself would visit the provinces and get update on implementation of plan from the provincial governments.
It may be noted here that in a live televised address to the nation on Wednesday, the Prime Minister announced 25 new counter-terrorism policies, including establishment of special military-run courts to prosecute terrorism suspects following the terrorist attack onPeshawar school that killed 149 people, including 132 children.
The “plan of action” included a wide range of measures including constitutional amendments, banning space for “terrorists” in electronic and print media, destroying their communication systems, and the repatriation of Afghan refugees. NNI
