ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid on Saturday said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) the largest number of individuals owning offshore companies.
Addressing a news conference, the Minister said Imran Khan has been categorically stating that he has nothing to do with any offshore company but now himself admitted he had owned company way back in 1983.
“Six PTI members, including Imran Khan, his sister, Aleema Khan, Jehangir Tareen, one Senator and a Senior Minister of KP own offshore companies,” he alleged.
The minister said neither Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif nor any cabinet member or PML-N Member of Parliament has any offshore company.
The information minister asked why Imran Khan did not disclose his offshore company or source of income in his declaration of assets.
He said Imran Khan has been claiming that offshore companies are formed to evade tax or launder money and the fact that he owns an offshore company means he is involved in tax evasion and money-laundering. He said Imran Khan has no moral justification to do politics.
He said Chief Justice of Pakistan, in his letter, has called for identification of names of individuals, groups and companies to be investigated by the Inquiry Commission.
Replying to a question, the Minister said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would give a policy statement on the issue of Panama Papers in the National Assembly on Monday.
To a question about Iftikhar Chaudhry’s demand for the prime minister’s resignation, he refused to comment, saying that former chief justice doesn’t represent anyone. NNI
