In a landmark move underscoring Pakistan’s growing commitment to religious tolerance and cultural pluralism, the Government of Balochistan has officially declared the historic Hinglaj Mata Temple a Global Tourism Site.
Located deep within Hingol National Park in the Lasbela district, this ancient Hindu pilgrimage site—revered for centuries by devotees—has now gained international recognition. This unprecedented step marks the first time a minority religious site in Pakistan has received such status, sending a powerful message of inclusion and unity to the world.
The initiative is spearheaded by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and supported by Senator Dinesh Kumar, a prominent voice for minority rights. The provincial government has also earmarked dedicated funds in the 2025 budget for the temple’s renovation, infrastructure development, and improved pilgrim facilities—ensuring better access roads, sanitation, accommodation, and enhanced security.
“Balochistan is a land of peace, diversity, and heritage. The recognition of Hinglaj Mata Temple reflects our deep respect for all faiths,” said CM Bugti.
The Hinglaj Yatra, an annual pilgrimage that draws over 250,000 devotees, will now be supported by improved infrastructure, paving the way for both local and international religious tourism. Pilgrims from across Pakistan, India, the Gulf, and the South Asian diaspora are expected to benefit from this enhanced experience.
A Turning Point for Religious Tourism
This bold move aligns with Pakistan’s strategic vision to promote minority religious heritage and position the country as a destination for spiritual and cultural tourism. With more than 50 minority religious and cultural sites across Balochistan alone, the province now stands at the forefront of a new era of inclusive tourism.
Key goals of the initiative include:
Preserving Religious Heritage through renovation and protection of sacred sites.
Boosting Inclusive Economic Growth by encouraging religious tourism.
Enhancing Infrastructure to meet international standards for visitor comfort and safety.
Projecting a Peaceful Image of Balochistan as a diverse and welcoming region.
Fostering Interfaith Harmony through visible government support for minority communities.
- Global Recognition and Local Empowerment
Senator Dinesh Kumar hailed the declaration as “a historic milestone for Pakistan’s Hindu community and a moment of pride for every citizen who believes in equality and respect.”
Analysts predict that tourism in Balochistan could grow by 30% in the next five years, bringing tangible benefits to the rural communities surrounding Lasbela. The decision is also being viewed as a powerful soft diplomacy tool, showcasing a more inclusive and peaceful image of Pakistan to the world.
