KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Saturday that it has requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) come up with a means to control the expansion of lucrative Twenty20 leagues due to growing worries about how it will affect the sport’s calendar.
South Africa withdrew this week from a three-match bilateral ODI series scheduled to take place in Australia in January due to a conflict with their brand-new domestic T20 league.
At the ICC’s annual conference in Birmingham later this month, the following cycle is expected to be announced.
According to PCB Chief Executive Faisal Hasnain, the growth of franchise cricket is having an impact on the already jam-packed international cricket schedule.
The PCB is worried about this situation and requests that the ICC adopt a plan of action. The ICC received our submission and added it to their conference agenda.
The ICC has been contacted by two additional boards who have expressed their concerns on this issue and asked the ICC to form a working group to discuss the Franchise-based T20 league expansion “This will ensure that we know exactly which teams will be coming to visit us and which countries we will be travelling. The remaining 20% of the will be finished in the following meeting, and 80% of it has already been agreed upon.
