LAHORE: A guard-changing ceremony on Monday has been held at national poet Allama Iqbal’s mausoleum on his 138th birthday anniversary.
Pakistan Navy’s contingent has taken over responsibilities as guards of the mausoleum. Navy Station Commander, Commodore S M Shahzad was the chief guest at the ceremony.
Pakistan Rangers contingent was relieved from their duties at the tomb. The ceremony heard special national tunes performed by Pakistan Navy’s band. Commodore Shahzad laid wreath at resting place of Quaid-e-Azam’s aide in Pakistan movement.
The chief guest, as per tradition also recorded his remarks over his visit in guests’ book at the mausoleum. In addition to the navy commodore, Pakistan Rangers Punjab Director General (DG) Major General Umar Farooq Barki also laid floral wreath at the tomb.A large number of locals were present in the tomb’s premises early in the morning today to pay respects to nation’s poet whose verses played role in Indo-Pak separation.
