Pakistan cricket and controversies

World cup of the shortest version of cricket is just around the corner but Pakistan Cricket has become hub of controversies one after another.

One the one hand, talented leg spinner Yasir Shah has been provisionally suspended by the International Cricket Council after testing positive for a banned diuretic. It was found to contain chlortalidone, a potential masking agent listed on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s list of banned substances. On the other, Pakistan Cricket Board is struggling to keep the friendly atmosphere among the players as few players are resisting its decision of including Muhammad Amir in the national squad.

Although PCB has zero tolerance policy towards use of prohibited substances but it seems there are serious issues with the implementation of this policy. In the presence of number of coaches, team officials and other staff members an emerging star player used prohibited substance and another controversy gripped our cricket.

Captain of Pakistan for ODI matches Azhar Ali, first presented his resignation not to be a captain of the team if Amir would be part of it. Later as per reports Chairman of PCB convinced him to take back his resignation. Another senior player Muhammad Hafeez and Azhar decided not to be part of training camp ahead of New Zeeland tour in presence of Amir.

It’s a sensitive matter and both the parties can present solid arguments to prove their viewpoint. But considering the miserable performance of Pakistan team in the ODI matches, it seems there are not many options available apart from including a young and talent bowler in the team. True, he did something disgraceful, shameful but he has completed his ban and both ICC and PCB has cleared him to play international cricket. Senior players need to understand that they are not doing justice with Pakistan cricket by creating unnecessary controversies and making affairs of Pakistan cricket a laughing stock.

T20 World cup is around the corner but PCB has failed to avert unnecessary controversies.
