ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Tuesday said that Pakistan was concerned over tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran spiralled after the execution of scholar Sheikh Nimr al Nimr.
Sarjaj Aziz, in a policy statement, told the National Assembly that the Muslim world faced grave dangers in the situation arisen in the wake of Saudi-Iran conflict. Terrorists could use the diplomatic crisis in the Middle East to their advantage, he added.
The statement follows criticism from opposition parties in the Lower House of the Parliament for not coming up with a clear stance on the situation and and called for a briefing on the issue.
Sartaj Aziz said that Pakistan would continue to play its role to ease tension between the two countries as it advocated unity among the Muslim world.
The National Assembly, he said, would be given an in-camera briefing on the Saudi-Iran tension.
He said national interest would be given priority in context of the diplomatic row in Middle East.
