ISLAMABAD: Pakistan said on Friday that India’s rapidly expanding nuclear program poses grave threat to the peace and stability of the region and beyond.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria said at his weekly briefing that the build-up has been facilitated by the NSG waiver granted to India in 2008. This not only dented the credibility of the non- proliferation regime and undermined its efficacy but also negatively impacted the strategic balance in South Asia.
He was of the view that another country specific exemption by the NSG on membership question will exacerbate the ill effects of 2008 waiver. He said Pakistan hopes that the NSG member states will make a well considerate decision this time keeping in view its long term implications for the global non proliferation regime and strategic stability in the region.
Responding to a question, the foreign office spokesperson said that Indian intervention in Pakistan is well proven and we have irrefutable evidence in this regard. He said that evidences collected from Indian spy Kulbushan Yadav are being compiled and given shape of a dossier which will be presented to the UN Secretary General at an appropriate time.
Nafees Zakaria strongly condemned the Indian ceasefire violations at the LOC and the working boundary. He said India should respect the ceasefire and refrain from targeting civilians and their properties. He said India is resorting to such acts to deflect the world attention from its ongoing atrocities in Occupied Kashmir.
To a question, the spokesperson said the Indian embassy after Surjeet Singh was involved in activities which were not in the interest of our national security. Therefore, he has been given the time by tomorrow to leave the country with his family.
To a question, the spokesperson once again made it clear that Pakistan draws no distinction in terrorist groups. He said we will not allow our land to be used against any other country. He said Pakistan in fact is the victim of foreign funded terrorist elements and the recent Quetta attack is a clear proof of it. He said Haqqani commanders were killed on the Afghan land in the month of August which indicates where these Haqqanis are based.
About Pakistan’s decision to attend the Heart of Asia conference in India, the spokesperson said this process is aimed at bringing peace and stability to Afghanistan with the collaboration of regional countries.
He said Pakistan’s decision is in line with its commitment to support every effort directed towards bringing peace in Afghanistan.
We will continue to play our role in this regard and will not allow the forum of Heart of Asia to fall prey to the myopic political agenda of any country.’
He said Pakistan also supports the QCG process to bring the Afghan warring parties to the table of negotiations. NNI
