Defence exhibition IDEAS kicks off in Karachi
KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Tuesday said that Pakistan remains committed to discourage any arms race in the South Asian Region and pursuing the Moto of arms for peace.
The Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif jointly inaugurated the four-day exhibition alongside Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Zakaullah and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman where 34 countries have set up 418 stalls.
Fifty five countries, including China, Turkey, Ukraine and the United States, are participating in the event.
Speaking on the occasion the Prime Minister said defence products of Pakistan are state of the art and stand fully tested by our own armed forces.
‘Pakistan is fast emerging as producer of quality defence products. Our defence products have made their mark in many countries. However there are still many opportunities for exploration of news markets’ the prime minister remarked.
He said the show casing of Pakistani products and their recognition in the world is a proof of the high quality of the equipment. He invited the delegates to seize the moment and expand defence ties with Pakistan.
The Prime Minister said making IDEAS successful is reflection of excellence and professionalism acquired by Pakistan’s defence industry over the years and a sense of commitment of those associated with it.
Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanwir Hussain also spoke on the occassion. Director General Defence Export Promotion Organisation Major General Agha Masood Akram in his welcome address said that nine countries are participating in the exhibition for the first time.
Later the Prime Minister went to each local and foreign stalls where he was briefed about the defence products on display.
Pakistan has put on display JF-17 Thunder aircraft, K8 Aircraft, Al-Khalid Tank, Fast Attack Craft Missile Boat, APCs and other defense products.
The inaugural ceremony was also attended by Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. Besides diplomats from various countries, a large number of foreign exhibitors/delegates, representatives of local companies engaged in defence production and officials of three armed forces were also present.
