ISLAMABAD : President Dr. Arif Alvi underlined the importance of strengthening Pak-China cooperation in the field of medicines, particularly infectious diseases during a meeting with the Chinese medical expert team of People’s Liberation Army that has been providing medical assistance in Pakistan. According to a report published by Gwadar Pro on Thursday, he appreciated the team’s consistent efforts to offer medical aid and guidance to local hospitals’ medical staff to treat patients contracted with the virus, reflecting the great friendship between the two countries. The president expressed his gratitude to China’s medical assistance and support to Pakistan in the hour of need during COVID-19 outbreak.  He also hailed China’s efforts in international cooperation against coronavirus highlighted by effective and decisive measures taken by the Chinese leadership, which has led to positive results in controlling the spread of the pandemic. During the meeting, the medical team briefed their work to the Pakistani side, shared various Chinese strategies on containing the virus and exchanged in-depth views on further cooperation to curb the pandemic. Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing emphasized that facing the global challenge of COVID-19 pandemic, China is willing to make joint efforts with Pakistan and will continuously provide support to Pakistan. The 10-member military medical team arrived in Islamabad on April 24 to help Pakistan fight the pandemic. They are dealing with respiratory and infectious diseases as well as prevention of epidemics.
