Three more arrested over killing of Christian couple
KASUR/ LAHORE (INP): The law enforcement agencies on Thursday nabbed three more suspects in connection to the killing of Christian couple who were burned to death in Kot Radha Krishan on allegations of desecrating pages of the Holy Quran.
The area wore a deserted look even after fourth day of the incident with a curfew-like situation.
Police had detained over 40 villagers who were part of the mob that brutally killed the Christian couple.
It is learnt that announcements were made from mosques on Tuesday asking villagers to gather at the Yousaf brick kiln where Shama, 25, and her husband Shahzad Masih worked as bonded labourers. Scores of charged people from three villages took out the couple from a room (where they had taken shelter) after tearing apart its roof. The mob assaulted the couple before putting them into the kiln’s furnace.
Meanwhile, The Pakistani American Congress (PAC), an umbrella organization of several Pakistani organizations in the United States of America, strongly condemns the brutal act of torching a Christian couple to death in the town of Kot Radha Kishan near Lahore.
This is totally an “unacceptable crime” in any responsible state, especially in Pakistan which is an Islamic Republic, says a press release received here Thursday.
It is the responsibility of government to protect all its citizens including all minorities. They are equal citizens of Pakistan and all their rights must be respected and protected. The state must pro-actively protect its minorities from violence and injustice and to promote inter faith harmony among various religions.
PAC strongly stress that the government, especially Punjab government, investigate this incident thoroughly and show no mercy to punish all those who were responsible for this heinous crime of killing of a Christian couple. There should be no sympathy for such criminals, irrespective of their status or affiliation.
