ISLAMABAD, Sep 19 (INP): Leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah said Friday that nobody points finger on the one who caused harm to the country and the constitution and that the country has remained captive to martial law, directly or indirectly, for most part of the history.
Khursheed Shah thanked the government for calling this parliamentary session which proved to be the longest ever session in the 67 year history of the parliament which has turned out to be quite fruitful.
He said parliament while representing the people of Pakistan exhibited their political experience and shall continue to show that via their character. Opposition and government had always been at odds against each other but circumstances have changed now, he said. The youth of the country has ever since been told that the politicians are responsible for the dreadful situation of the country and, he added.
Khursheed Shah said Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was the one who brought real revolution not only bestowing the country with constitution but making Pakistan a nuclear state. He emphasized that the constitution and the system that we are so determined to protect has been introduced by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
Leader of the opposition said all Pakistan remained peaceful besides Constitution Avenue and some 6,000 to 10,000 demonstrators were not able to hamper the way of Pakistan.
He stated that parliament is responsible to make decisions and nobody else. One cannot demand to become Prime Minister of the state, he has to take the route of the electoral procedure and go to the people, he added.
Shah further said that ZAB laid the foundation of Pak-China friendship and they are saddened that President of China could not visit Pakistan but he was sure that this visit will take place in near future.
He enquired if ever leaders in Islamic history have ever used women and children for personal political gains, by referring to the presence of women and children in the sit ins.
Talking about the division of Sindh he stated Sindh has an 800 year old history, why would someone talk about its division. He further stated that he admits and supports the induction of local body elections to be conducted in Sindh and the power to be transferred to lower level.
He went on appreciating the efforts of jirga and pronounced that jirgah would now just hold talks with the main leaders of the two parties and not with the second tier leaders.
“We want the demonstrators to quit protests, sit together and talk politics as there is no definite enemy or friends in politics”, he said.
Khursheed Shah said that they do not want politics to mutilate image of the country. Millions of Internally displaced persons (IDPs) are suffering since the inception of the operation but no party flag to express solidarity could be seen.
In his concluding remarks he said that Benazir Bhutto laid the foundation of politics of reconciliation and he would also like to acknowledge the gesture of co-chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari who emphasized to empower PM Nawaz Sharif so parliament could be empowered that would empower the constitution which would in turn strengthen the vision of ZAB.
