According to the reports disclosed by the ISPR on the eve of completion of one year of operation Zarb-e-Azb, 2763 militants have been killed in the operation so far.
The operation was launched on June 15 last year following a brazen attack on Karachi airport – that signalled the collapse of the government’s peace talks with the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. During the operation, some 837 hideouts of terrorists have been destroyed and 253 tonnes of explosives recovered so far, Maj Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa, the Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) revealed the details on a social networking website. ISPR has launched a song to laud the sacrifices rendered by army fighting terror. The title of the song ‘Ye Banda Mitti Ke Bandy’ touches the hearts of people. During the ongoing operation, 347 officers and soldiers of Pakistan Army have embraced martyrdom. Up to 90% of North Waziristan has been declared to be free from terrorists’ while the central command and control apparatus along with communication systems of terrorists has also been destroyed.
After the successful operation against the terrorist in North Waziristan, terrorists were on the run as army made the area a living hell for them. When terrorists could not find the answer to retaliate the operation Zarb-e-Azb they found an easy target. Terrorist attack on Army Public School Peshawar was on of the most brutal one which took over 150 precious lives of innocents mostly children. To be concise, nation became more united and full of passion to eliminate the scourge of terror. All the political parties were united under all parties’ conference and formalized National Action Plan to get rid of terrorism. Army not only intensified the operation but also broadened the scale of operation in other areas against the terrorists.
We are proud on the sacrifices rendered by army for the defense and sovereignty of the country.
