Omar Ayub admits cities facing loadshedding of up to 12 hours

ISLAMABAD : Federal Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan admitted that loadshedding of up to twelve hours is being held in different cities. The Power Division has coined a new term of ‘load management’ for loadshedding and stated in its official document that load management is being conducted in the country. According to details, load management of eight to twelve hours at 474 feeders, of six hours at 623 feeders and of four hours at 390 feeders is being conducted. More than 16 billion units of electricity were wasted due to theft and system malfunction last year, the document said. It has further been told that 16 billion units fulfill the entire country’s requirement of electricity for two months in winter. 14.72 percent of the electricity which was produced in 2018-19 was wasted. The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) wasted five billions units followed by the Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) with 2.70 billion units, the Lahore Electric Power Company (LESCO) with 1.60 billion units, the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) with 1.42 billion units and the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) with 1.21 billion units.
