ISLAMABAD: It looks like that Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dam funds campaign supported by Prime Minister Imran Khan and Supreme Court are facing stagnation owing to the lack of interest shown by the donors and authorities, it was learnt on Sunday.

Sources said that the fund campaign that once was spurred by special interest shown by then Supreme Court chief justice Saqib Nisar in 2018 is now in the doldrums as no donations are coming to the crowdfunding scheme.

The last amount which landed in the Diamer-Bhasha Dam and Mohmand Dam funds campaign was of Rs1,000 deposited by one Imran Shahid from Dubai on March 8 last. The total funds amounting to Rs11,100 have been deposited in the dam fund during the current year.

Since the start of the funding campaign, Rs12.93 billion inclusive profit have been collected so far.

Then Supreme Court chief justice Nisar established the crowd funding account for Diamer-Bhasha Dam and Mohmand Dam in July 2018.

Prime Minister Khan while appreciating this step of the chief justice changed the name of Dam Fund into Prime Minister Supreme Court Dam Fund.

CJ Nisar became the first donor of crowdfunding by depositing Rs1 million in the dam fund. His action prompted a national campaign across the country. The overseas Pakistanis also showed interest and deposited a huge amount of money in the government dam fund.

The Supreme Court has deposited money collected through this fund in the State Bank in order to earn a profit on it.

Pakistan having a huge population of 216 million is facing acute scarcity of water in near future. Experts believe if the government did not take steps to conserve water right now then the country could confront with drought-like situation soon. INP
