ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has vowed to complete re-verification process of National Identity Cards (NICs) within the stipulated timeframe.

He made these remarks while chairing a meeting to review NADRA’s ongoing national CNIC re-verification drive her on Monday.

The Minister said that re-verification of CNIC across Pakistan is a difficult task but vital for ensuring the security of the state.

He said the drive is aimed at cleansing NADRA’s database of all aliens who have got themselves registered as Pakistanis.

He termed overwhelming response of the citizens to the ongoing re-verification drive as encouraging.

The Minister was informed that even before the start of NADRA’s SMS service to the citizens, over four hundred thousand citizens checked their family tree through sending SMS on their own.

NADRA has received over 13000 complaints, where citizens have pointed out aliens in their Family record since July 1 and one third of them are confirmed aliens.

The Interior Minister also approved nationalization of three Cessna planes and their inclusion in the Air Wing of the Interior Ministry for counterterrorism, and anti-narcotics operational duties.

He pointed out that changing security paradigms demand further strengthening of Air Wing of the Ministry and, therefore, directed Air Wing to put up proposals for strengthening of its helicopter fleet post December 2017 – once the US funding for existing fleet would ends.
