KARACHI: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan spoke to Sindh Governor Dr. Ishratul Ibad over the phone Thursday and shared details regarding the Imran Farooq murder case with him.

Sources at the Governor House said the two spoke about the law and order situation in the province. Nisar also discussed his meeting with the British High Commissioner Philip Barton earlier this week, and matters pertaining to the money laundering investigation conducted by Scotland Yard of Muttahid Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain also came under discussion.

A prime suspect in the Imran Farooq murder case, Moazzam Ali, was arrested earlier this week and presented in an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), which sent him on a 90-day preventive detention on Tuesday. Ali is responsible for arranging visas, tickets and stay in Britain of two suspected killers of Dr Farooq.

Ishratul Ibad said the murderers of Dr Farooq should be brought to justice.

Yesterday, four MQM members suspected of land grabbing, China Cutting, and funding target killers were arrested North Nazimabad and other areas of Karachi by the Rangers during in intelligence-driven operation conducted in the city.

Also yesterday, a 10-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) questioned death row prisoner and former MQM worker Saulat Mirza in Balochistan’s Machh jail.

Mirza was brought to the office of the jail superintendent from his death cell for interrogation, which continued for five hours, sources said. He was taken back to his death cell after the process.

The convict was found guilty of murdering the then managing director (MD) of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC), now K-electric, Malik Shahid Hamid, his driver Ashraf Brohi, and his guard Khan Akbar outside Hamid’s residence in DHA on July 5, 1997.

Saulat Mirza levelled serious allegations against MQM chief Altaf Hussain, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad and MQM leader Babar Ghauri in a video broadcast hours before his scheduled execution on March 19, after which President Mamnoon Hussain delayed his sentencing.
